A former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has emerged as the party’s senatorial candidate for Osun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election, according to sources familiar with the ongoing process at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, disclosed that the list of APC senatorial candidates for Osun State had been finalised following the party’s primary election.
According to the source, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN) emerged as the APC senatorial candidate for Osun Central, while Francis Adenigba secured the ticket for Osun East Senatorial District.
Recall that Ogunbiyi emerged victorious during the party’s senatorial primary election held across the 110 wards in the district on May 18.
The results were announced in Osogbo by the APC Senatorial Primary Election Committee led by Bayo Ayo Esq.
According to the results declared by the committee, Ogunbiyi polled 30,651 votes.
The committee subsequently returned Ogunbiyi as the APC senatorial candidate for Osun West Senatorial District.
In his acceptance remarks, Ogunbiyi appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, APC leader Bisi Akande, APC governorship candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, the state party chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, as well as party leaders and members in the senatorial district for for the confidence reposed in him.
He also commended other aspirants for what he described as their maturity and commitment to the progress of the party.
Ogunbiyi urged party faithful in Osun West to remain united and work together towards the success of the APC in future elections.
He further pledged to provide quality representation and uphold the ideals of the party if elected.
While offering prayers and support for the success of Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji in his aspiration to become the next Governor of Osun State, he also pledged to uphold the values and ideals of the party through quality representation, integrity, and dedicated service to the people.
Ogunbiyi’s emergence follows months of political consultations after he stepped down from the Osun APC governorship race and threw his weight behind the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The Chairman of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc had earlier dissolved his governorship campaign structure and directed his supporters across the state to work for the success of the APC in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
