A member of the Borno State House of Assembly representing Magumeri Local Government Area, Audu Mustapha, has clarified the circumstances surrounding a viral video showing him in tears.
The lawmaker, in a statement issued on his behalf by his Media Consultant, Babakura Bukar, urged the public to disregard reports circulating online regarding the incident.
According to reports, Mustapha was seen shedding tears in a video that recently surfaced on social media, sparking reactions over his political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement explained that the emotional moment occurred after more than 100 constituents, mostly vulnerable residents, allegedly contributed money to purchase his Expression of Interest and nomination forms.
The lawmaker stated that the gesture from the constituents came as a surprise and was accompanied by appeals urging him to seek re-election in 2027.
He further clarified that the tears were expressions of appreciation and gratitude for the show of support from members of his constituency, contrary to claims that he was begging for another term in office.
Mustapha also maintained that the All Progressives Congress had not concluded its primary process or selected candidates for elective positions ahead of the election.
The statement added that no candidate had been imposed or denied a ticket at this stage of the political process.
The lawmaker subsequently urged members of the public to disregard what he described as misleading claims on social media and rely only on verified information.
