The Chairman of Oriade Local Government Area in Osun State, Olubunmi Obeisun, has come under criticism over comments he made concerning the 2027 election in the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency.
Obeisun made the remarks on Saturday while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress during a party gathering in the constituency.
The comment, which was captured in a viral video, was later shared on Facebook by Wole Oke.
Speaking in Yoruba language during the event, Obeisun accused the people of Ijebu-Jesa of working against the APC during previous political activities.
He further stated that the party would also work against them if they attempted to contest elections in the constituency.
The council chairman also declared that he could be quoted anywhere regarding his position on the matter.
Obeisun went further to state that if the opposition eventually won the election, he would manipulate the process.
Reacting to the development, Pelumi Olajengbesi, who also serves as spokesperson for the campaign council of Governor Ademola Adeleke, described the statement as criminal and anti-democratic.
Olajengbesi stated that he had watched the viral video in which Obeisun allegedly vowed to rig the 2027 House of Representatives election in favour of Wole Oke and the APC.
According to him, the statement was reckless, anti-democratic, criminal, and unacceptable in a democratic society.
He also called on security agencies to take note of what he described as alleged plans by the APC to deploy thuggery, intimidation, hooliganism, and violence to influence the outcome of future elections.
Olajengbesi, however, maintained that the people of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency would resist any form of political imposition and defend their votes during the election.
He further stated that many residents of the constituency were already tired of what he described as Wole Oke’s prolonged stay in the House of Representatives spanning 24 years and were now seeking fresh representation.
