Police have confirmed the death of a yet-to-be-identified man during a clash with officers on patrol duty in the Iseyin area of Oyo State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Saturday.
He said the incident involved an encounter between officers of the Border Patrol Unit stationed along the Iseyin/Oyo Road and a Fulani man riding a motorcycle.
According to him, the situation escalated when the individual became restive and violent, leading to a confrontation with the officers.
He added that during the clash, the man was struck and fell from his motorcycle.
The police spokesperson stated that the victim was immediately rushed to a medical facility where he was later confirmed dead.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the detention of all officers involved pending the outcome of a thorough investigation, which is currently ongoing.
Olayinka also noted that the Commissioner directed that an autopsy be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
He added that a brief protest broke out in Iseyin following the incident but was swiftly brought under control, with the crowd peacefully dispersed after assurances that justice would be served.
He assured that a comprehensive report on the incident would be made available in due course.
