American singer and songwriter Billie Eilish has stirred debate with her stance on animal rights, stating that people cannot genuinely claim to love animals while continuing to consume meat.
The Grammy-winning artiste made the remark during a recent episode of Ask Me Anything with Elle while promoting her upcoming tour film, Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), co-directed with James Cameron.
Responding to a question about a belief she strongly holds, Eilish acknowledged that her position might not be popular, but maintained that eating meat is fundamentally wrong.
She argued that it is contradictory for individuals to profess love for animals while also consuming them, insisting that both positions cannot coexist.
Eilish noted that while people are free to make their dietary choices, they should not claim to support animal welfare if they continue to eat meat.
Born Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, the singer rose to fame in 2015 with her debut single Ocean Eyes, created alongside her brother Finneas O’Connell.
She gained global recognition in 2020 after winning five awards at the Grammy Awards, and has since received multiple honours, including the American Music Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and a Guinness World Records title.
In a separate interview in 2024, Eilish also spoke about her sexuality, revealing that she has long been attracted to women.
She explained that it took time for her to fully understand and accept that part of herself, while also criticising societal pressure to publicly disclose personal identity.
