A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ejigbo, Chief Peter Ogundeji, popularly known as Apata, has officially declared his intention to represent Osun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly in 2027.
Apata made the declaration on Friday during the Osun West APC Apex Leaders’ meeting held in Iwo, where aspirants were received.
Speaking with journalists after the declaration, Ogundeji said he joined the race to represent the people of Osun West Senatorial District, expressing confidence in the party and its chances in the forthcoming elections.
He noted that members of the party remain united and are working collectively to ensure victory in future elections, particularly in support of the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
According to him, “We are optimistic because we believe in this party so much. And we have been doing everything possible to promote the party. We have organized a lot of programmes to energise our people, and we will continue to do so. By the grace of God, victory shall be ours. We are all in the APC, and we are working for the progress of our party. What is even more paramount right now is for our gubernatorial candidate, in the person of Alhaji Bola Oyebamiji, to become governor. We are united and forming a formidable team to face our opponents, so that by August 15, our party’s candidate will be declared the winner.”
In his remarks, the Secretary to the Osun West Senatorial District APC Apex Leaders Body, Prince Omolaoye Akintola, said the meeting was part of steps aimed at ensuring a smooth and credible primary process for the emergence of the party’s candidate.
Akintola explained that the party would strictly adhere to established procedures and guidelines, including those set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, in selecting its candidates through consensus or primary elections.
He said, “By the grace of God, today’s meeting, marking the visitation of those who will be senatorial aspirants from our district on the platform of our party, is a step in the right direction. We believe it is critical and necessary to ensure seamless and free party primaries as may be determined by the party in due course. No one can go beyond what the party lays down. There are procedural steps and stages to be followed strictly and diligently by the party structures, from the top to the grassroots, regarding the emergence, selection, and election of the party’s candidate for a specific elective position. By the grace of God, we are fully prepared.”
Also speaking, APC Apex Leader in Ejigbo, Senator Mudashiru Hussain, described the party as formidable and noted that the number of aspirants reflects its strength and appeal.
He stated that the party would follow due process in selecting its candidate, adding that preparations were ongoing ahead of the elections.
Hussain expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to contest and win future elections in the state.
Similarly, a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Raji Ayoola, declared support for Apata’s senatorial ambition, expressing optimism about the party’s chances in both the governorship and senatorial elections.
Ayoola added that party leaders would ultimately decide on the candidate, expressing confidence that the process would produce a credible flagbearer.
He said, “I am very, very sure AMBO will win the governorship election, and at the same time, Insha Allah, God will be with our leaders, and they will pick Apata for the Senate. And by the special grace of God, Apata will also win the Senate.”
