Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has expressed the view that President Bola Tinubu will not succeed in the 2027 presidential election.
Yesufu made the remark on Thursday while speaking during the Politics Today programme on Channels Television, where she discussed political developments ahead of the next general elections.
During the interview, the activist argued that the president’s political moves, particularly efforts to build alliances with state governors, were aimed at creating the impression of political strength.
She maintained that the number of governors backing a political party does not necessarily determine electoral victory, noting that past elections in Nigeria have shown that parties with many governors can still lose power.
Yesufu also pointed to public participation in political activities, claiming that recent registration exercises linked to the ruling All Progressives Congress did not attract widespread interest from Nigerians.
Speaking further on the programme, Yesufu described the 2027 general elections as a critical contest for the country’s future.
She said the coming election cycle would be intense and decisive, stressing that many Nigerians view it as a defining moment for the nation’s political direction.
The activist also expressed concern about the performance of the ruling party, stating that many citizens were dissatisfied with governance and were increasingly eager for change ahead of the next national polls.
Yesufu said: “Bola Tinubu has already lost; that’s why he is looking for governors that he’d put together to have an illusion of power.
“Once upon a time, I think PDP had 20-something governors; it didn’t stop them from losing the election when it was time for them to lose.
“The fact that they don’t have the people, you could see it when they were doing the registration and nobody was interested, nobody cared to visit their website. But you can see with the ADC the kind of passion it has gathered.
“As we go into 2027, let me tell you, it’s a war we are going into. Yes, it’s a war; we are fighting for our lives. Every one of us, there is a bed in the psychiatric hospital for every one of us who wants to show that madness.
“We are not going to sit back while some people think that they have the monopoly on anyhowness or madness.
“APC has not shown it’s a party that has the credibility to do the right thing. It has always shown itself to behave in an ‘any-howness’-kind of manner.
“Of course, we know those things are going to come, but we are confident about the fact that Nigerians are tired,” she said
Yesufu is widely known for her role in civic activism and as a co-convener of the BringBackOurGirls movement, and she frequently comments on governance, elections and citizen participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.
