The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted security agencies over an alleged planned protest by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that the leadership of NULGE had directed its branches across local governments to mobilise members for a protest in Osogbo.
According to the statement, the planned protest is expected to take place at branches of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in the state capital.
The party alleged that the protest could disrupt commercial activities in the affected locations.
It also claimed that the planned action followed a meeting between NULGE leaders and some government officials.
The APC noted that logistics support had been provided for the planned protest.
The party recalled a previous industrial action by NULGE, noting that the union had earlier embarked on a prolonged work stoppage in the state.
The APC urged the police and other security agencies to remain vigilant and take necessary steps to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
It also called on parents and guardians to caution their wards against participating in activities that could disturb public peace.
The party added that security agencies should closely monitor the situation and act promptly in the interest of public safety.
Part of the statement reads, “A privileged information sourced from contacts close to the NULGE revealed that the leadership of the labour union in the state has instructed its branches to mobilize twenty staff per local government to embark on destructive protest to the United Bank for Africa (UBA) branches in Osogbo on Monday, 23rd of March, 2026.
“It is worrisome and disheartening that the leadership of the Osun State chapter of the NULGE could make itself readily available as a willing tool in the hands of desperate politicians.
“There’s no plausible reason under the sun why the NULGE should continue to make itself a laughing stock in the estimation of the right-thinking members of the society by even contemplating any protest over the autonomy granted the local government councils nationwide by the Supreme Court judgement.
“It would do the labour union a lot of good if its leadership can put on their thinking cap and prioritise the actions and inactions that would promote peace in the state.
“We are, as a party, imploring the police and their sister security agencies in the state to be on standby with a view to making a scape goat out of any disgruntled elements who are planning to disturb the public peace in the state.
“Parents and guardians should also warn their children and wards to desist from being made willing tools in the hands of the NULGE whose motive is to needlessly disturb the public peace in the state.
“For how long would the Osun State chapter of the NULGE continue to operate as an extension of the Accord Party which is the new abode of Governor Adeleke after his efforts to join our party, APC, in the state were rebuffed?
“The security services should know where to beam their searchlight in the event of breakdown of law and order as a result of the thoughtless NULGE protest.”
