How Bola Oyebamiji Became APC Governorship Candidate in Osun
Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji emerged as the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Osun State through a consensus arrangement on December 13, 2025.
Seven other aspirants stepped down following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, paving the way for a single candidate.
The primary took place at Ebunoluwa Group of Schools in Osogbo and was supervised by Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo as chairman of the APC governorship primary committee.
A motion for Oyebamiji’s adoption as the sole candidate was moved by aspirants Kunle Adegoke (SAN) and Senator Babajide Omoworare, then subjected to a voice vote among over 1,660 delegates.
The motion received overwhelming support, leading Okpebholo to declare Oyebamiji as the governorship candidate of the party.
The process was described as peaceful and unified, reflecting internal party negotiations aimed at presenting a strong, consensus flagbearer.
Oyebamiji later selected former lawmaker Tunde Olatunji, who represented Ife North, as his running mate.
The emergence positioned the APC to leverage Oyebamiji’s experience in public service, including his tenure as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority and former Commissioner for Finance in Osun State, ahead of the August 15, 2026 election.
