A Nigerian woman has gone viral on social media after publicly displaying food items she reportedly received from supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In the widely circulated video, the woman unboxed cartons believed to be part of political palliative distributions and stated that although she collected the items, she would not vote for the president.
She explained that she had received the boxes of gifts linked to Tinubu and proceeded to show their contents, saying she would eat the food items but would still not support him during elections.
According to her, the assistance should not be used to influence her political decision, stressing that she pays taxes as a citizen and that the distribution of such items should not determine the future of her children.
In the video, she opened the cartons, revealing food items such as bags of rice, vegetable oil, noodles, including products from Golden Penny, and other household staples reportedly distributed under the “Renewed Hope” initiative.
Across Nigeria, politicians and political parties often distribute food items and other relief materials to citizens, particularly during periods of economic hardship or political campaigns.
The practice, commonly referred to as the sharing of palliatives, is frequently used as part of political outreach efforts aimed at providing temporary relief to residents.
However, such distributions have also attracted public debate, with critics arguing that palliatives should not replace long-term economic policies or be used to influence electoral support.
The video has continued to generate mixed reactions online as Nigerians discuss the role of political palliatives in the country’s democratic process.
