Six members of the House of Representatives representing constituencies in Osun State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party.
The lawmakers made the announcement on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Accord Party held in Osogbo, the state capital.
The move aligns them with Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had earlier left the PDP for the Accord Party in December 2025 to pursue re-election in the August 15, 2026 governorship poll.
Hon. Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, spoke on behalf of the defectors.
He expressed confidence in a strong victory for Governor Adeleke and urged Accord Party members to participate actively in the electoral process.
Akanni stated that it would not be easy for one person to pick up a gun and kill others.
He advised voters to stay behind after casting their ballots to monitor the process, check the result sheet and ballot papers before voting to ensure completeness, and projected that 80% of votes would go to Adeleke while the other party would get 20%.
He added that they would win and all would be alive to witness it. Akanni announced that on behalf of Mahruf Adewale representing Osogbo Federal Constituency, Bamidele Salam representing Ede Federal Constituency, Soji Adetunji representing Ikirun Federal Constituency, Mudashiru Lukman Alani representing Iwo Federal Constituency, and Lanre Oladebo representing Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency, all of them had moved to the Accord Party from that day.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Adeleke explained that his own defection to the Accord Party was guided by spiritual direction amid turmoil in the PDP.
Adeleke stated that he loved the PDP but had to leave to avoid being trapped in his re-election bid. He confided in trusted leaders, began consultations, and prayed to God, which led them to the Accord Party, noting that it is the first party on the ballot.
He urged supporters to continue backing him and work hard for victory in the governorship election. Adeleke encouraged massive voting for the Accord Party, assuring that victory was guaranteed.
The Governor thanked the PDP family for past support and endorsements, accepted them wholeheartedly, and expressed appreciation to the Accord Party for accepting him.
Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuf, also spoke at the event, which drew large crowds of supporters and government officials.
In his remarks, Yusuf predicted a win for Adeleke and called for dedication from supporters to secure a successful outcome.
With this defection, Dr. Lere Oyewumi, the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate representing Osun West Senatorial District, remains the only federal lawmaker from Osun State elected on the PDP platform.
………25 Osun House of Assembly Members Defect from PDP to Accord
In a related political development earlier in late February 2026, twenty-five members of the Osun State House of Assembly, all elected on the PDP platform, formally defected to the Accord Party.
The group, which includes Speaker Adewale Egbedun, made the announcement after a plenary session and a subsequent declaration at the Banquet Hall in Osogbo, in the presence of Governor Adeleke and Accord Party leaders.
They cited the need for a more stable, inclusive, and people-centred platform to continue serving Osun residents, reaffirming their support for Governor Adeleke and emphasising continuity in governance and accelerated development.
The defection reduced the PDP’s presence in the 26-member House to zero, leaving only one opposition member from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
