The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that its online portal will be opened for prospective corps members to complete their mobilisation registration from March 12 to March 18, 2026.
The announcement was made in a notice shared on the scheme’s official social media platforms on Friday, informing eligible graduates about the schedule for the registration exercise.
According to the notice, only graduates whose names appear on the approved Senate or Academic Board lists submitted by their respective institutions will be eligible to participate in the online registration process.
The scheme explained that institutions are required to upload the approved lists of qualified graduates to the NYSC portal before such individuals can proceed with the mobilisation registration.
Prospective corps members were also advised to verify their personal information before beginning the registration. The agency stressed that the name provided during registration must correspond exactly with the name recorded with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
In addition, applicants were urged to ensure that their names on the NYSC portal are consistent with those on their academic certificates or statements of results.
The scheme recommended that graduates confirm their details through the Senate list verification portal before attempting to complete the online registration.
NYSC further directed prospective corps members to consult its official website and social media platforms for detailed information and guidelines on the registration process.
History of NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps was established in 1973 by the military government of Yakubu Gowon through Decree No. 24 of 1973.
The scheme was created in the aftermath of the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970) as part of efforts to promote national unity and integration among young Nigerians from different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds.
Under the programme, graduates of universities and polytechnics below the age of 30 are required to undertake a one-year national service in states other than their states of origin.
Since its establishment, the scheme has expanded significantly as the number of tertiary institutions and graduates in Nigeria has continued to increase, leading to the annual mobilisation of hundreds of thousands of corps members across the country.
