At least thirteen persons have been k!lled after bandits invaded a wedding party in Kahir village in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday night, March 29.
An eyewitness who confirmed the incident told Daily Trust that the bandits, armed with AK-47 rifles, stormed the wedding venue and opened fire in the hall.
He said several people who sustained bullet injuries were rushed to Kagarko General Hospital, adding that two other victims with severe injuries were taken to Kaduna.
The eyewitness said two of his friends who were inside the hall sustained bullet injuries during the attack, adding that it was difficult to ascertain the number of those abducted due to the sporadic shootings.
A community leader who preferred anonymity also confirmed the incident.
He gave the names of some of those k!lled as Bako Danjuma, Williams Luka, Peter Williams, Joseph Yakubu, Victor Peter, John Dan Asabe, Angulu Markus, Maikano Aribi, Douglas John Ado Yakubu, Zaphaniah Alhaji, Joseph Kaddah and Francis Unguwa Doya.
He said the bandits, who operated unchallenged for nearly an hour, also invaded some shops and carted away foodstuffs, provisions and drugs from a chemist in the community.
The community leader, however, said those k!lled have been buried, even as he said contact is yet to be established with the abductors of the victims.
The community leader said the entire community was thrown into pandemonium due to the sporadic shooting by the bandits on Sunday night, forcing some residents to flee into the bush.
A police source at the Kagarko Division also confirmed the incident, even as he said the police were yet to determine the actual number of those abducted in the attack.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Hassan Mansur, also confirmed the abduction and killings, saying the command will issue a comprehensive report on the incident later in the day.
