Osun State Police Command on Wednesday said it had arrested one Taye Kasali of Bose-Osi, Osun State, in connection with the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali.
Kasali allegedly killed his mother and buried her remains in a shallow grave within the family farm.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen.
According to Ojelabi, the incident was reported at the Bode-Osi Police Division on September 1, 2026, at about 7:30pm after Kudirat and her son were reported missing.
He said police operatives commenced an investigation following the report and, through intelligence-led efforts, arrested Kasali on September 7, 2026, in connection with the alleged crime.
Ojelabi said the suspect was interrogated and subsequently confessed to the crime.
According to the PPRO, Kasali told investigators that his mother had allegedly been referring to him as a mad person and had threatened to lease out the farmland, which he described as the family’s major source of livelihood.
The suspect also confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026, by allegedly slitting her throat with a machete before burying her body in a shallow grave within the farm.
Ojelabi further said that during the investigation, Kasali led police operatives to the location of the shallow grave, where the remains of the deceased were recovered alongside the machete allegedly used in the crime.
The PPRO added that the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, had directed a thorough investigation into the incident.
He said the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Zungura also assured members of the public that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
The command urged members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and other suspicious activities to the police or other relevant security agencies.
It also called on residents to provide useful information to security agencies whenever necessary.
