A man, Adebisi, has asked the Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his marriage to his wife, Feyisara, alleging that she is violent and has repeatedly attacked him with a knife.
Adebisi, who filed the divorce suit, said his wife frequently turned discussions into arguments and often became violent during disagreements.
He told the court that the situation had made him fear for his life, prompting him to seek the dissolution of the marriage before his wife allegedly caused him serious harm.
According to him, the couple fought almost every day and his wife had on several occasions drawn a knife on him and dared him to retaliate.
Adebisi further alleged that the frequent disputes had caused a strained relationship between their families, particularly between their mothers.
He also accused his wife of humiliating him through what he described as undignified behaviour, adding that he had reached the end of his patience and no longer wished to remain in the marriage.
Feyisara was absent from court despite having been served with the court proceedings.
The President of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, subsequently adjourned the matter and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served on the defendant.
