One of the daughters of veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, Kira Taiwo, has accused some Nigerians of trying to make money from her father’s battle with stage-four cancer.
Kira made the allegation during an emotional TikTok live session on Saturday, where she sobbed while speaking about her father’s condition and the financial demands allegedly being made by some people offering to help the family.
She alleged that some people had approached the family with offers of solutions while demanding amounts ranging from N800,000 to N5 million and between $11,000 and $18,000.
Kira questioned the motive behind such demands, saying the family was not made up of billionaires and could not afford to meet such financial requests.
She said the family’s priority was to find treatment for the actor rather than deal with financial demands from people claiming to offer assistance.
Kira also disclosed that the situation was taking a toll on her wellbeing, saying she needed to check her blood pressure because she was not feeling well.
She said the actor’s illness had also deeply affected his brother, whom she referred to as her “big daddy.”
Kira said she learnt about her uncle’s reaction from a family group chat where relatives regularly discuss her father’s health.
She recalled seeing a message from her cousin indicating that her uncle had asked whether Taiwo was going to die.
Kira said her father and his brother shared a particularly close relationship, making the situation difficult for everyone in the family.
She said the two brothers were so close that the children could hardly determine who loved the other more.
Kira also expressed concern about her uncle, saying she believed he was struggling to cope with the situation.
The actor’s daughter said she had become withdrawn and avoided social media because she found it difficult to see pictures of her father while dealing with his illness.
She said she did not know how she would feel or see the world again if anything happened to her father, while stressing that she was not seeking sympathy.
Kira said she went online to cool off but became emotional because of how deeply connected she was to her father.
She described her father as someone who wanted the best for everyone and wanted everybody to be fine.
