The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State could have been a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) if circumstances had worked out differently.
Wike explained that Adeleke had never been too critical of the Federal Government, suggesting that the Osun governor could have joined the APC if things had worked out well.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, the minister said Adeleke would have been with the APC if the circumstances had been favourable.
Wike questioned the APC’s position on the outcome of the Federal Capital Territory election, saying the party could have regarded a victory there as evidence that it had defeated the Federal Government.
He said the party had alleged that the process was manipulated after losing the election, adding that political actors should recognise the government’s willingness to allow electoral processes to run their course.
The minister said people did not necessarily have to like whoever was in charge of government but should acknowledge when processes were allowed to operate properly.
Wike also disclosed that he was on vacation when he called Adeleke on Saturday to ask about the conduct of the Osun governorship election.
According to him, Adeleke told him that the election was going well, while Wike reminded the governor that he had earlier advised him not to worry.
