The media aide to FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has called for the arrest of an Islamic cleric identified as Shafiy Adeba, who was allegedly caught on camera saying Muslims have the “right” to enslave non-Muslims.
While preaching to his congregants in his mosque somewhere in the Southwest, Adeba, who spoke in Yoruba, allegedly said Muslims had the right to wage war against and enslave those he referred to as infidels.
He also allegedly told his congregants that non-Muslims could be locked in their homes, prevented from going to the market or other places and attacked wherever they were found, claiming that such actions were prescribed by the Quran.
Reacting to the video, Olayinka called for the arrest of the cleric, describing his preaching as extremist and expressing concern that such a message was being delivered in Yorubaland.
Olayinka questioned the appropriateness of such preaching in a region where Christians, Muslims and traditional religion worshippers live together.
He argued that people who engage in such preaching should be arrested, alleging that extremist preachers had contributed to the emergence of Boko Haram, which Nigeria continues to battle.
