A video showing a confrontation between military personnel and the lawmaker representing Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Hon. Sanya Omirin, has surfaced online.
The video, which went viral on Tuesday, showed the federal lawmaker alongside some police officers and aides during the incident.
Although the cause of the confrontation could not be independently verified as of the time of filing this report, the footage captured Omirin cautioning one of the soldiers and warning him against actions that could cost him his job.
The soldier, however, rejected the warning, insisting that the lawmaker had no authority over his employment.
He questioned whether Omirin was the Chief of Army Staff and maintained that no one could threaten him with the loss of his job.
The military officer also directed the lawmaker to a nearby military barracks, insisting that the area fell within the military’s area of responsibility.
He further denied allegations of engaging in illegal mining, explaining that he had attempted to clarify the situation and challenged the lawmaker to identify any mining site within the area.
