The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has said he may not be alive to contest the next general election, alleging that the government is frustrating his activities and targeting opposition figures.
Obi made the remarks during an interview on With Chude, which media personality Chude Jideonwo shared on X on Wednesday.
The former Anambra State governor said there was a possibility he might neither contest the 2027 presidential election nor be alive by then, alleging that the government had continued to frustrate virtually everything he does.
He, however, clarified that he was not making a direct accusation, but insisted that he experiences frustration on a daily basis and believes government influence can be seen in many of the challenges he encounters.
Obi further alleged that the government was not only targeting him but also other members of the opposition, claiming that he had been denied privileges and entitlements ordinarily available to him.
He cited a recent incident at an airport where he claimed officials locked his vehicle despite other vehicles parked in the same area being left untouched, describing the action as part of the alleged pattern of harassment.
The former governor also alleged that some people now avoid publicly associating with him for fear of becoming targets, adding that some individuals had even asked him not to attend their family events to avoid possible repercussions. NAN
