The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it will deploy 4,427 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The commission also disclosed that it has received about 80 per cent of the non-sensitive materials required for the poll, which have already been distributed across its offices in the state.
Speaking at a press conference at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, said INEC was fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, inclusive and transparent election that reflects the will of the people of Osun State.
Babalola disclosed that 3,763 BVAS machines would be deployed across all polling units in the state, while 664 additional devices had been set aside as backups to address any technical issues that might arise on election day.
She explained that the BVAS devices would be used to upload polling unit results directly to the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV), enhancing transparency and enabling the public to access election results from each polling unit.
The REC added that all the BVAS devices had been fully charged and were awaiting configuration, which would be carried out closer to the election.
Babalola also said the commission had identified all the sensitive and non-sensitive materials required for the poll, noting that about 80 per cent of the non-sensitive materials had already been received, distributed to the local government areas, and sorted into Registration Areas (RAs) and polling units.
According to her, INEC is working closely with relevant security agencies to ensure the safe storage and protection of all election materials ahead of the governorship poll.
