Senior presidential aide Daniel Bwala has taken a swipe at Peter Obi, accusing him of opposing key reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu despite previously supporting similar policies.
Bwala, who serves as Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, made the remarks in a strongly worded statement shared on social media, where he questioned Obi’s criticism of the administration’s economic and governance policies.
According to Bwala, Obi’s reactions to some of the Federal Government’s policies suggest inconsistency, noting that the former Anambra governor had advocated for similar measures before the 2023 presidential election.
“I don’t know why anytime Nigeria makes progress, it angers Peter Obi. Why? It is the same Nigeria he is seeking to govern in his wild goose chase,” Bwala said.Politics
He further stated, “Before the 2023 elections, he said he will remove subsidy; we did and now he says he will not. He said he will create state police; we did, he is saying he will not.”
The presidential aide also claimed that Obi had once supported the unification of the foreign exchange market but has now distanced himself from the policy.
“He said he will unify the foreign exchange; we did and now he is saying he will not. It seems he doesn’t even know what he plans for Nigeria,” Bwala added.
Obi has repeatedly criticised some of the government’s economic policies, particularly their impact on the cost of living and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
However, Bwala’s comments suggest the Presidency believes the former presidential candidate has shifted his positions on several major policy issues.
