The Zamfara State Police Command has recovered a 10-day-old baby allegedly stolen from General Hospital, Kaura-Namoda, in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The command also confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect identified as Asmau Nasiru in connection with the incident.
The spokesperson of the command, Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
According to the statement, the baby was recovered following a complaint lodged at the Kaura-Namoda Divisional Police Station three days earlier over the reported theft of the infant from the hospital.
Abubakar stated that the police immediately launched an intensive investigation into the incident after receiving the complaint.
As part of the investigation, hospital staff members who were on duty at the time of the incident were invited and interrogated to assist detectives handling the case.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that the infant was eventually recovered on May 15, 2026, at about 8:35 a.m. in a nearby settlement identified as Kogin Audu in Kaura-Namoda.
According to him, the recovery and arrest followed credible intelligence provided by residents through community engagement and information sharing with security operatives.
Abubakar confirmed that the baby was recovered unharmed and had since been reunited with the biological parents.
He added that the suspect was currently in police custody and undergoing further investigation over alleged involvement in the crime.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended residents for providing timely information that aided the successful recovery of the child.
The police commissioner also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.
The command added that further developments would be communicated as investigations progress.
