Afrobeats star Davido has announced a temporary break from his music career to focus on political mobilisation ahead of the Osun State governorship election.
Davido disclosed that he would suspend his music activities for two months in order to actively support the re-election bid of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke.
The singer made this known on Tuesday in Ede during the inauguration of a 43-man youth campaign structure set up to drive grassroots support for the governor.
The committee, named the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team, is chaired by Davido, with coordinators appointed across the three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, 30 local government areas, and the Modakeke Area Office.
Speaking at the event, Davido explained that his decision to take a break from music was driven by his belief in the governor’s performance and the need to contribute to the continuation of his administration.
He noted that his involvement goes beyond family ties, stressing that he is convinced the governor has delivered on his mandate and still has more to offer the state.
The music star said he and members of the team would deploy their influence, particularly among young people, to ensure victory at the polls.
He urged members of the committee to prioritise door-to-door engagement across communities, highlighting the importance of connecting directly with voters at the grassroots level.
Davido also emphasised the need to showcase the achievements of the current administration while communicating its future plans to residents across the state.
According to him, the youth-focused structure remains critical to the success of the campaign, given the significant role young people play in determining electoral outcomes.
According to PUNCH report, he said “I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle. Not only because he is my uncle, but because he is doing a good job, and he has major things to do—the job is not done.
“We are all here to support him to win the election with our influence. This is one of the most important committees because it has to do with youth.
“Let’s do door-to-door mobilisation across all local governments, showcasing what the governor has done and what he plans to do. Let’s engage people in our communities and connect them with the governor’s work,”
