The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has shared a set of marital guidelines for young men, warning that marrying for beauty alone or ignoring practical considerations could lead to serious consequences.
In an address during the May edition of the Holy Ghost Service on Saturday, the cleric emphasised that spiritual discernment and domestic competence should take priority over physical attraction and social status.
Addressing the men, Adeboye cautioned against being misled by outward beauty, noting that a lack of prayer and discernment could result in wrong marital choices.
He warned that relying solely on physical appearance in choosing a spouse could lead to serious regret, describing such decisions as a potential “deep trap.”
Adeboye also advised men against marrying women who lack basic domestic skills, particularly cooking and hospitality, stressing the importance of these qualities in marriage.
He referenced biblical examples such as Sarah and the Shunamite woman to underscore the value of hospitality and home management.
The cleric further warned against proceeding with wedding plans that could result in financial strain, urging men to reconsider any marriage arrangement that would push them into debt.
He advised that moderation should guide wedding plans and cautioned against extravagant ceremonies that exceed one’s financial capacity.
On personal appearance, Adeboye cautioned against excessive use of cosmetics, including heavy makeup, artificial hair, and false nails.
He advised men to be observant and discerning, warning that excessive adornment could sometimes conceal underlying issues, and referenced biblical teachings to support his position.
Adeboye stated that his intention is to guide young men towards making sound marital decisions that would ensure stable and successful homes.
