The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to mark this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government, extending congratulations to Nigerian workers for their contributions to national development.
In a statement issued on April 29, 2026, and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the government said the holiday was in honour of workers across the country.
Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerian workers for their diligence and commitment, noting that their efforts remain critical to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
He also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a conducive environment for economic development.
The minister urged workers to continue to uphold the values of patriotism, productivity, and dedication to duty.
He further called on Nigerians to remain peaceful and law-abiding, encouraging them to use the occasion to reflect on the importance of unity and hard work in nation-building.
