The Osun State Police Command has arrested an additional 14 suspects in connection with the recent attack on police officers in Erin-Osun and Ilobu communities, bringing the total number of arrests to 18.
The Command disclosed in a statement issued by it’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi on Sunday that the arrests followed sustained, intelligence-driven operations coordinated by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
It stated that the suspects, who had gone into hiding after the incident, were apprehended through targeted intelligence gathering efforts.
The police also recovered exhibits linked to the attack, including one single-barrel gun, one live cartridge, and a cutlass.
Among those arrested are Olaitan Bashiru, 53; Tajudeen Aralamo, 65; Mustau Salam, 45; Jimoh Nurudeen, 20; Adeboye Ashifa, 63; Ajibola Segun, 40; Mustapha Muwaliu, 38; Jimoh Quyum, 26; Ajani Faruq, 20; Musibau Jimoh, 35; Ajani Faruq, 18; Olaniyan Quadri, 40; Fatai Oyawoyin, 50; Basiru Olaogun, 55; Mutairu Olawoyin, 49; Ige Jimoh, 60; Olawoyin Samad, 18; and Tajudeen Taorid, 18.
The Command reiterated its commitment to upholding the human rights of all individuals, adding that those involved in the criminal act would face the full weight of the law.
It added that efforts were ongoing to track and arrest other fleeing suspects connected to the incident.
The police advised members of the public to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
The Command also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and useful information to support policing efforts in the state.
