The Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) has elected Comrade Abioye Tosin Lawrence as its new Chairman following the successful conduct of its general election.
In a statement signed by Jamiu Babatunde, Committee Secretary, the committee disclosed that other elected executives include Mr. Idowu Abass of Idealplusgist as Vice Chairman, Mr. Adekale Babatunde of Spyloaded as General Secretary, and Mr. Fatai Akanji of Adulawo as Financial Secretary.
The committee stated that Comrade Lawrence of Oriontime News secured victory after polling 57.9 per cent of the total votes cast, defeating Mr. Bright Olorungbotemi of Voice Air Media and Mr. Hammed Tajudeen of Blaze News Nigeria in a closely contested race.
According to the committee, the election has produced a new executive team to pilot the affairs of the Association for the next two years.
The committee further disclosed that a maiden manifesto session was introduced to deepen engagement and promote accountability among contestants.
It added that voting commenced at 8:00 a.m. with accreditation of eligible members, followed by orderly balloting conducted in strict compliance with established electoral guidelines.
The exercise was described as peaceful and well-coordinated, reflecting the Association’s commitment to democratic principles and institutional integrity.
In its post-election remarks, the committee expressed appreciation to members for their cooperation and active participation, noting that the outcome represented the collective will of the electorate.
The committee also stated that the newly elected executives will be formally sworn in at the forthcoming Congress scheduled for March, during which the outgoing administration led by Mr. Mukhtar Ajelogbon will officially hand over leadership responsibilities, paving the way for a new phase of strategic direction and institutional consolidation for the Association.
