Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in office in the 2027 general election, citing the achievements of the administration.
Akpabio spoke on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, when he received members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, led by Senator Muntari Dandutse, representing Katsina South.
The Senate President said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would have sufficient achievements to present to Nigerians when campaigns for the 2027 election begin.
According to him, Tinubu inherited a difficult economic situation but has taken steps that have improved the finances of states and changed the situation regarding payment of salaries and pensions.
Akpabio said Tinubu had done a lot for Nigerians, adding that the President inherited an economy in crisis when 27 states could not pay salaries and pensions.
He said the situation had changed due to what he described as Tinubu’s reengineering and innovative approach to governance.
Akpabio expressed optimism that voters would reward the administration at the polls, saying the APC would use its record in government to make its case to the electorate.
He predicted that Nigerians would re-elect Tinubu in 2027, adding that the APC would present what he described as the administration’s unprecedented achievements during the election campaign.
Akpabio also took a swipe at opposition politicians challenging Tinubu in the forthcoming election, accusing them of failing to offer Nigerians convincing alternatives to the APC-led administration.
The Senate President further defended the performance of the 10th National Assembly under his leadership, saying the Senate had made what he described as “giant strides” and would continue working with the executive to implement its programmes.
He also urged lawmakers to remain focused despite criticism on social media, dismissing the platform as unreliable.
Akpabio called on senators who would not return to the 11th Senate after the 2027 elections to remain committed to the APC and support the Tinubu administration.
According to him, their loyalty and continued contribution to the party would be recognised.
