Afrobeats star and Chairman of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilization Team, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke will secure victory in the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
Speaking while addressing journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, Davido said Governor Adeleke had won the governorship election twice and would emerge victorious again.
He said the camp remained confident of another victory, declaring that the election would be won for the third time by the grace of God.
Davido also appealed to residents of Osun State, particularly young people, to remain calm and reject every form of violence, intimidation, provocation and destruction ahead of the poll.
He urged eligible voters to come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear, stressing that every vote must be respected.
According to him, the people of Osun should demonstrate to the world that they are peaceful, courageous and determined to build a better future for the state.
The singer appealed to political leaders and stakeholders to allow democracy to take its course and ensure that the people freely choose their preferred candidate at the polls.
He also urged governorship contestants and their supporters not to allow political ambition endanger the lives and future of the people, insisting that elections should not be treated as a do-or-die affair.
Davido maintained that if any candidate emerged victorious through the ballot, such victory should be respected, while the decision of the electorate should equally be accepted if they chose another candidate.
He noted that politics is temporary but Osun State would remain, adding that no political victory is worth violence, destruction or the loss of a single life.
The musician further appealed to residents to vote peacefully, reject intimidation and ensure that their voices are heard through the ballot.
Davido also appealed to Imo State Governor , Senator Hope Uzodimma to use his influence to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election in Osun.
He said he had heard reports alleging moves to interfere in the election or turn the state into a political battleground, stressing that he was not presenting the claims as established facts but was making an appeal in the interest of democracy.
Davido urged Imo State Governor to allow the people of Osun to freely choose their preferred candidate, insisting that peace should prevail and democracy be allowed to take its course.
