President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15 governorship election, urging him to focus on governance and the development of the state.
Tinubu spoke on Thursday when Adeleke visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, to thank him following his re-election.
The President urged Adeleke to focus on projects that would improve the lives of residents, including road infrastructure, housing, school rehabilitation and healthcare.
He also urged the governor to prioritise the training of teachers and health workers as part of efforts to protect vulnerable families in the state.
Tinubu said the people of Osun State had expressed their judgment through the election, adding that they loved Adeleke and wanted him to govern the state.
He urged the governor to uphold the principles of democracy by ensuring that no individual became a victim of political differences, stressing that the joy of a free and fair election should be celebrated.
Tinubu said Adeleke did not conquer anyone by winning the election, but won through the democratic process.
He urged the governor to use his renewed mandate to build unity in the state and work towards a better future for generations to come.
He expressed happiness over the opportunity to discuss the outcome of the election with Adeleke and urged him to return to Osun to continue governing the state.
Part of the statement reads, “Take out the president. We got every other person. Ask common men, their families, to feed the infrastructure you embark upon on the road network, housing, school rehabilitation, hospital, health care pronouncements, resuscitation of health care, training of teachers, training of health workers to protect our vulnerable families.
“It’s part of your responsibility. And the people of fortunate states pronounce their judgment on you, that they love you. They want you to govern.
“So you’re going back to govern. Anybody, any Democrat, anybody in the political environment who cannot celebrate the joy of free and fair election does not deserve the laughter and the happiness of democracy. Don’t make a single individual a victim of your campaign.
“Don’t. Not for you alone. Not for the sake of us all alone.
“For the generations to come. It’s more important for you to build a network of unities, unified tools, and everything. Like I said, you did not conquer anybody.
“You won the election. That is the essence of democracy. I’m so happy that we have this talk.”
