The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Governor of Osun State, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, and his wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, have cast their ballots in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
The couple voted at Ward 1, Unit 10, in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of the state, at about 10:30 a.m.
Speaking to journalists shortly after casting his vote, Oyetola, who is the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, commended voters for the impressive turnout.
He also praised the peaceful conduct of the electorate, expressing confidence that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would emerge victorious at the end of the exercise.
Oyetola said he was encouraged by the turnout of voters, noting that it showed the people’s interest in the democratic process and their determination to exercise their civic responsibility.
He also expressed satisfaction with the peaceful manner in which voters had conducted themselves, describing Osun as a peaceful state and appealing to everyone to maintain the spirit throughout the election and after the results were announced.
The minister urged voters and supporters of the various political parties to shun violence, provocation and acts capable of disrupting the electoral process.
Oyetola further expressed confidence in the electoral process, saying he believed the APC candidate had worked hard and enjoyed significant support among the electorate.
He said he was confident in the party’s candidate and believed the people of Osun would make the right choice, stressing that the priority at the time was for everyone to remain calm, allow the votes to be counted and ensure that the will of the people prevailed.
The former governor also commended the security agencies deployed for the election, urging them to remain professional, impartial and vigilant until the conclusion of the exercise.
He said the security personnel had an important role in maintaining peace and ensuring that voters could exercise their rights without intimidation, urging them to continue to discharge their duties professionally and fairly.
