Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, on Monday paid an unscheduled visit to the state secretariat, where he found several civil servants and top government officials absent during official working hours.
During the inspection, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government, the Head of Service and the Accountant General were all locked when the governor arrived.
Several commissioners and permanent secretaries were also absent from their offices during the visit.
However, the Commissioner for Works was at his duty post, while the Permanent Secretaries of the Ministries of Health and Livestock Development were also present.
Out of the state’s 18 commissioners, only one was found in the office at the time of the governor’s visit.
Reacting to the situation, Governor Namadi criticised what he described as poor attendance and a lack of commitment among some government officials.
He warned that his administration would not condone absenteeism, indiscipline or misconduct within the state civil service.
