The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of misleading a delegation from the British Government over the security situation and political violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The party alleged that Governor Adeleke gave a false account of political violence in Osun during a meeting with the British delegation led by Senior Political Adviser, Wale Adebajo, and urged the delegation to disregard what it described as baseless allegations against its leaders and members.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Monday by the Osun State APC Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party faulted the governor’s call for economic sanctions and visa restrictions against the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, Senator Francis Fadahunsi, the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), the Director-General of the AMBO Campaign Council, Hon. Wole Oke, and other APC chieftains over alleged involvement in political violence.
The APC described the governor’s allegations as misleading, insisting that no court or commission of inquiry had indicted any of the party leaders or members for aiding or abetting political violence in the state.
The party further accused Governor Adeleke of harbouring wanted political thugs in the Government House to evade arrest, alleging that he failed to disclose this to the visiting British delegation.
The statement also alleged that more than 30 APC members and supporters were killed by thugs of the defunct Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before the 2022 governorship election.
It further claimed that some aides of the governor were currently standing trial before an Abuja court over the killing of former Irewole Local Government Chairman, Hon. Remi Abass.
The APC also alleged that four of its members were killed in Ilesa last month by suspected Accord Party thugs.
The party urged the British delegation to disregard the governor’s allegations against APC leaders and members, insisting that past events showed that the Adeleke administration had relied on falsehood and misinformation.
The APC maintained that Governor Adeleke was responsible for the allegations he levelled against the opposition, accusing him of aiding and abetting political violence in the state.
