The National Spokesman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has expressed fears that the 2027 general elections may not hold, citing concerns over the preparedness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), insecurity and the prevailing economic hardship in the country.
Abdullahi said delays in the procurement of election materials by INEC could threaten the conduct of the polls, stressing that many of the commission’s procurement processes are carried out outside the country.
He expressed concern that INEC may not have received the necessary funding or completed the required procurements, warning that the commission might not be adequately prepared for the election, whether deliberately or inadvertently.
The ADC spokesman also said worsening insecurity could prevent elections from taking place in several parts of the country.
He further argued that the economic hardship and hunger under the administration of President Bola Tinubu could discourage many Nigerians from participating in the electoral process, claiming that many citizens are bitter over the current situation.
Abdullahi also alleged that the elections could be manipulated, with aggrieved politicians left to seek redress in court after the exercise, according to The Sun.
