The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, saying terrorism, banditry and kidnapping, once prevalent mainly in the northern part of the country, have now spread to communities close to his residence.
Adeboye made the remarks during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala organised by the Save Nigeria Group in Washington, where he lamented that those responsible for the insecurity remain at large despite being widely known.
The cleric said the security situation had deteriorated to the point where many people now question the presence of God, adding that terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes had extended from northern Nigeria to the southern region.
He disclosed that he had discussed the country’s security challenges with President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is also a pastor in the RCCG.
According to Adeboye, he urged the President to direct the military to eliminate the security threats within 90 days or have the responsible officers step aside. He also called for decisive action against those sponsoring criminal activities.
The RCCG leader further alleged that some politicians and businessmen were behind terrorist and bandit activities, stressing that tackling insecurity would require targeting those who finance and equip the criminal groups.
He maintained that unless the government identifies and prosecutes those supplying weapons, ammunition and financial support to the criminals, efforts to end terrorism and banditry would remain ineffective.
