Celebrity businessman and socialite Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, has disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not fully trust him because of his previous support for Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Cubana Chief Priest made the disclosure during a live session with popular streamer Peller while speaking about his political alignment and support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.
The nightlife promoter admitted that he worked for Peter Obi during the 2023 election but explained that he later switched allegiance because he no longer wanted to remain on what he described as a losing side.
According to him, President Tinubu still views him with suspicion because of his previous political association with Obi.
Cubana Chief Priest also argued that Obi was not politically prepared to win power, insisting that elections are determined by structure, strategy and political backing.
He maintained that Tinubu currently enjoys the support of more than 30 governors across the country, making him a stronger political force ahead of the next election cycle.
The businessman further described Tinubu as a politically powerful figure who could not easily be displaced from Nigeria’s political scene.
He also dismissed the influence of social media popularity in elections, stating that online support and comment section trends do not automatically translate into electoral victory.
His comments came days after he failed to secure the All Progressives Congress ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC primary election held on Saturday reportedly ended without Cubana Chief Priest clinching the ticket despite purchasing the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
Reacting to the outcome in an Instagram post on Sunday, the businessman said he was not defeated in the contest but voluntarily stepped down after consultations with Hope Uzodimma.
According to him, Governor Uzodimma explained the party’s zoning arrangement and informed him that it was not yet the turn of his local government area to produce the federal lawmaker representing the constituency.
