Vice President Kashim Shettima has revealed that some individuals allegedly attempted to create division between him and President Bola Tinubu shortly after they assumed office in 2023.
Shettima made the disclosure on Tuesday in Abuja during the public presentation of the autobiography of former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, titled My Life of Duty and Allegiance.
Representing Tinubu at the event, the Vice President said some persons from Borno State allegedly approached the President and warned him against wearing traditional clothes he had earlier received from Shettima during the APC presidential campaign period.
According to Shettima, the individuals alleged that the clothes had been charmed and claimed he intended to kill Tinubu and take over power.
He, however, said Tinubu dismissed the allegation, insisting that the claim lacked logic because at the time the clothes were presented, Tinubu was only an aspirant and Shettima had not emerged as vice-presidential candidate.
The Vice President further disclosed that Tinubu deliberately continued wearing the clothes for about one week to demonstrate that he was not influenced by superstition or ethnic suspicion.
Shettima used the occasion to advocate national unity and peaceful coexistence, cautioning Nigerians against divisive politics and mutual distrust.
