The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba AbdulRasheed Adewale Akanbi, on Wednesday stirred reactions online after showcasing robots during the Eid-El-Kabir celebration in Iwo, Osun State.
The monarch disclosed this in a post shared on his official social media page, where he stated that the Ileya celebration in Iwo had taken “a new look” with the introduction of robots.
He wrote; “Oluwo imports Robots for ileya festival. Very interesting moment as Ileya celebration takes anew look in Iwo”
In a video shared on the monarch’s page, the robot was seen moving ahead of the royal convoy while waving at residents and spectators during the celebration.
The development generated mixed reactions from social media users, with many describing the display as a reflection of innovation and technological advancement in traditional celebrations.
Reacting to the video, Adeola Adigun urged Nigerians to remember victims of insecurity during the festive period and pray for the release of those currently in kidnappers’ custody.
Adigun said, “Alhamdulahi, but with everything we are doing today, let’s remember those people that are with kidnappers, let’s pray for their release”
Another user, Aderanti Akeem Ademola, commended the monarch for embracing technology and innovation, describing the initiative as a positive development.
Ademola said, “Nothing we no go see from telu but I love seeing this bringing technology and innovation to the system is a good thing “
Also reacting, Abu Ana’s praised the Oluwo, while Demola Olaitan Atanda described the display as excessive content creation, “We joke too much in this country. Let say everyone is now content creator”
Another commenter, Hiam Da Veliz, said Yoruba communities must continue to protect their cultural identity and resist intimidation by criminal elements threatening peace in the region.
“Yes normally it’s good things we use do in all Yoruba land and we can’t let anyone to come and be using Guns to be oppressing our people in our lands or to come and be making our people scared of them in our own lands”, He said.
