Youths protesting persistent bandit attacks have reportedly set ablaze the office of the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government Area in Kano State.
According to Daily Trust report , bandits attacked Lakwaya village in Gwarzo on Friday, May 15, 2026, killing two persons and injuring several others.
The attackers were said to have invaded the community on more than 30 motorcycles while shooting indiscriminately and causing panic among residents.
Tension, however, escalated on Sunday when protesting youths stormed the local government secretariat, vandalised property, and set the chairman’s office on fire.
A resident of the area, identified as Ismail Aliyu Gwarzo, disclosed that the protesters took to the streets over what they described as persistent insecurity and repeated attacks on their communities.
According to him, villagers trekked for about 20 kilometres to the local government secretariat to register their grievances over the worsening security situation.
He further stated that the protesters vandalised parts of the secretariat and eventually set a section of the building ablaze during the protest.
Aliyu added that the incident created panic in the area, forcing many residents to flee for safety.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
