President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, who cited a memo signed by the SGF, George Akume.
According to the memo, Taiwo Oyedele has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, while Dr. Muttaqha Darma has been named as the Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.
The statement indicated that the outgoing ministers have been directed to conclude all handover processes to their successors on or before April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the decision to effect the changes was part of efforts to improve coordination and strengthen service delivery in critical sectors of the economy.
He noted that the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing cohesion and synergy within the government, particularly in driving the administration’s policy objectives.
The SGF added that the move is expected to ensure more impactful delivery of economic policies and programmes to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
He further stated that the President acted in accordance with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empower him to appoint and reassign members of the Federal Executive Council.
President Tinubu also commended the outgoing ministers for their contributions to national development and wished them success in their future endeavours.
