Residents of Isale General area of Ilesa, Osun State, were thrown into panic on Tuesday afternoon following reports of sporadic gunshots in the community.
According to a report by UNiQ FM, tension began after a vehicle carrying some young men, who were alleged to have been terrorising the area, was sighted moving through the streets.
The development reportedly caused residents and traders to flee for safety as gunshots were heard in quick succession.
The medium also reported that videos obtained from the area showed deserted streets, with several houses and shops shut following the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, the identities of the occupants of the vehicle and the motive behind the reported shooting remained unclear.
There was also no official confirmation from the Osun State Police Command on whether there were casualties or arrests in connection with the incident.
Residents have called on security agencies to urgently deploy personnel to the area to restore normalcy and ensure the safety of lives and property.
