The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has commenced the legal process arising from the August 15 governorship election following the filing of petitions by the All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election.
According to The Nation report, the petitions were displayed on the notice board of the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally signalling the commencement of proceedings over the election outcome.
The Secretary of the tribunal, Pefe Belemore, had earlier confirmed to the publication that petitions challenging the result of the election had been filed.
Belemore said the necessary notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
He was also present at the opening of the tribunal earlier in the day alongside other secretariat officials as preparations were made for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC and PDP are challenging the outcome of the election, which saw Adeleke declared the winner and returned as governor for another term.
The display of the petitions is expected to allow the relevant legal processes to be served on the parties involved and pave the way for subsequent proceedings before the tribunal.
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
Oyebamiji named Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as respondents in the petition challenging the election result.
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
