Three people have been killed and about 20 others injured in a road crash along the Ife-Ilesa Expressway in Osun State.
The crash, which occurred on Saturday around the Tonkere area between Ile-Ife and Ilesa, involved a Toyota Hiace bus and a car that collided head-on.
According to a PUNCH report, the Osun Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Sunday Adebayo, attributed the crash to speeding and dangerous driving.
Adebayo said the FRSC team arrived at the scene about five minutes after the incident and mobilised patrol vehicles from Ilesa and Ile-Ife for the rescue operation.
He disclosed that the three people who died comprised two females and one male, while the injured passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
According to the FRSC commander, the vehicle involved in the crash had 11 females and nine males, including three children comprising two boys and one girl.
The injured victims were taken to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, and the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Ile-Ife for medical treatment.
The remains of the deceased were deposited at the morgue of Wesley Guild Hospital, Ilesa, while the two vehicles involved were taken to the nearest police division.
Adebayo urged motorists to avoid excessive speeding and dangerous driving, stressing that road users could reduce the severity of crashes by driving at safer speeds.
He also called on motorists to respect other road users and adopt responsible driving habits to prevent avoidable loss of lives.
