The Osun State Police Command has debunked a viral video suggesting that its officers were fleeing from a drone, saying the footage was taken from a Yoruba movie production.
The command made this known in a statement issued the the PRO, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, following the circulation of the video on social media and its airing by National television with a caption suggesting that officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Osun State Command, were running away from a drone.
The command said the presentation was false, explaining that the footage was from a Yoruba film titled Omije Fun Omije Part 2, at approximately 39:08 minutes into the movie.
According to the command, the scene was shot in May 2026, with a police patrol vehicle used as part of the movie production.
It explained that an actor wearing a police uniform was momentarily left outside the moving van in the scene, ran after the vehicle and boarded it, while a bystander who was not part of the film crew recorded the moment.
The bystander, according to the police, subsequently tagged the footage as showing police officers running away from a drone and posted it online.
The command said the drone visible in the video was the one used to film and record the movie and was not involved in any operational pursuit of police officers.
It rejected the narrative that serving police officers had run away from a drone, describing the claim as misleading and damaging to the reputation of the Force.
The command said investigative journalism required verification before a video clip was given a national or international frame, adding that publishing out-of-context footage with a false explanation was not a minor error when used to ridicule a security institution.
It called on Arise News and others circulating the material to retract the caption and narrative, issue a correction stating that the clip was from a movie production and not an operational incident, and desist from presenting staged or unrelated footage as evidence of police cowardice or misconduct.
The command said it remained committed to lawful and professional policing in Osun State and would continue to protect lives and property.
It added that while it remained open to factual reporting, it would not accept what it described as the deliberate distortion of images, videos or media reports to tarnish the command.
