The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has commended the peaceful conduct of voters and election officials after casting his ballot in the ongoing governorship election.
Oyebamiji, who spoke shortly after voting at Ward 9, Irewole Local Government Area, at exactly 10:42 a.m., said the electoral process at his polling unit was proceeding peacefully, with voters, election officials and security personnel present.
He said he had cast his vote and observed that voters had turned out, while the electoral process was proceeding peacefully. He noted that INEC officials, voters, police officers and other security personnel were present at the polling unit.
The APC candidate said his assessment of the situation at the polling unit was that the election was proceeding peacefully.
Oyebamiji also said reports reaching him from other polling units indicated that the election was generally peaceful, while security operatives had intervened in areas where there were attempts to cause disturbances.
He said information available to him showed that the election was going on well, with INEC carrying out its duties and security personnel attending to places where some individuals attempted to cause trouble.
Oyebamiji urged voters and other stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise, particularly amid concerns over possible violence later in the day.
He stressed the need for voters to conduct themselves peacefully and allow security personnel to remain in charge of the process.
He also commended the electoral officials for what he described as a commendable operation, expressing optimism that the peaceful conduct would continue.
On his expectation from the election, the APC candidate expressed confidence in victory, saying he expected to celebrate after the election.
