The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, has banned the consumption of alcoholic drinks within the palace, declaring that only activities consistent with the worship of God would be permitted in the royal premises.
The monarch made the announcement in a viral video circulating on social media, explaining that the palace must remain a sacred place to encourage spiritual growth and ensure prayers are answered.
Addressing those present, Oba Akanbi said he had consistently urged members of the palace to preserve its sanctity, stressing that alcoholic drinks and anything contrary to the worship of God would no longer be allowed within the palace.
He explained that the palace, which he described as “Aafin Olodumare” (Palace of God), houses a mosque and should be kept holy to enable worshippers’ prayers to be answered. According to him, maintaining the holiness of the palace begins with individual conduct.
The monarch also advised anyone wishing to consume alcohol to do so outside the palace, insisting that drinking would no longer be tolerated within the royal premises.
