The convoy of Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), came under attack by suspected hoodlums in Ede South Local Government Area on Sunday evening.
According to The Nation, Dr. Oyebamiji had visited Alajue Ward 2 to mobilise and sensitise voters ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The attack was said to have occurred around 7 p.m. shortly after she concluded the political engagement alongside Princess Bukola Adereti, wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Kayode Adereti.
Sources said about 15 armed hoodlums attacked the convoy as it departed the venue.
During the attack, the Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Sekona Branch, reportedly sustained serious head injuries.
Dr. Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti, however, escaped the attack unhurt.
Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Ede South Local Government, Hon. Kolawole Salami, condemned the attack and called on security agencies to investigate the matter and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
Salami said the incident happened around the Alajue and Sekona Garage area while Dr. Oyebamiji and Princess Adereti were returning from a political programme in Alajue, Ede.
He alleged that those behind the attack were loyalists of a political Party and urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
