No fewer than 1,500 residents of Ode-Omu and neighbouring communities in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
The outreach, facilitated by APC chieftain, Engr. Kazeem Opejin, offered free blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI) assessments, medical consultations, medications, health education and counselling, as well as ophthalmology services where more than 1,000 pairs of eyeglasses and eye drops were also distributed to beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Oyebamiji, represented by his wife, Dr. Sekinat Oyebamiji, pledged to revitalise the state’s primary healthcare system if elected governor, while criticising the current administration for what she described as the poor state of the health sector.
She described the outreach as part of the APC candidate’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare, noting that similar programmes had been held across the state.
“Looking at the present condition of the health sector in Osun State, reaching out to people through their healthcare needs is the right thing to do. We have organised medical outreaches across the state, and this is the second in this federal constituency.
“You can see that AMBO’s team is made up of people who understand the needs of Osun residents. A vote for the APC is a vote for improved healthcare, better infrastructure, quality education and a more prosperous state,” she said.
Dr. Oyebamiji urged residents, particularly women, to support the APC candidate in the August 15 governorship election, assuring them that their welfare would receive priority under an Oyebamiji administration.
Earlier, Opejin said over 1,500 residents benefited from the outreach, explaining that the initiative was informed by the declining state of healthcare delivery in the state and the need to provide immediate support to rural communities.
According to him, an AMBO administration would strengthen healthcare delivery across the state. When AMBO is elected governor, he will make healthcare more effective and accessible than what we are witnessing today. His wife is a medical doctor, and both of them are passionate about healthcare. They have supported many health-related initiatives, and this outreach is another way of assisting the people of Ode-Omu and surrounding rural communities,” he said.
He added: “As we campaign, we must also ensure that our people remain healthy enough to participate in the election and continue with their daily lives. Health is wealth, and this is my own contribution to supporting AMBO because I believe he will prioritise the wellbeing of both the young and the elderly.”
