The Osun State chapter of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) has distanced itself from a group identified as the “YPP Decampees Group” that recently declared support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s campaign rally in Ede.
The party, in a press statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary, Comrade Animasahun Saheed A., said it had carefully reviewed the publication titled “Campaign Address by the Chairman, YPP Decampees Group into APC, Ede, for the APC Campaign Rally” before issuing its position.
According to the statement, the decision followed consultations with the State Working Committee, Local Government Executives and other stakeholders of the party across Osun State.
The YPP said it does not recognise, endorse or have any affiliation with the group described as the “YPP Decampees Group” or the individuals who made the declaration at the APC campaign rally in Ede.
The party maintained that it remains a united, active and independent political platform with a functional State Executive and structures across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, including Ede Federal Constituency.
The party also stated that political association remains a matter of personal choice, noting that any member who voluntarily defects to another political party automatically ceases to be a member of the YPP and no longer has the authority to speak, represent or negotiate on behalf of the party.
It further stated that the names and titles referenced in the address presented at the APC rally are not known to the Osun YPP leadership as officials of the party.
Reaffirming its political direction, the YPP said it remains committed to its founding ideals of transparency, accountability, youth inclusion and people-centred governance.
The party also dismissed claims of any merger arrangement, insisting that it is not engaged in merger talks with any political party.
According to the statement, the party is fully mobilised ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election to present credible candidates under the YPP platform and advance its Prosperity Agenda for the people of Osun.
The YPP urged members of the public, the media and its supporters to disregard the claim, describing it as not representing the position of the Osun State chapter of the party.
The party alleged that the action was the handiwork of Mr. Alexander-Roast Tadenikawo Adeleke and his supporters, whom it said are no longer members of the party and therefore cannot speak on its behalf.
It also appealed to its members and supporters to remain calm, stay united and continue working for the growth of the party in Osun State.
